  4. The files that make up this beta release of PFE are:

  6. pfe.exe                The Windows 3.1 executable
  7. pfe.hlp                The help file
  8. $pfedos.exe            A support module that handles running compilers, etc
  9. $pfedos.pif            The PIF file for this module
  10.  
  11. printmap.exe           A diagnostic program that prints out saved key mapping
  12.                        files
  13. ddetest.exe            A Visual Basic program that you can use to test PFE's
  14.                        DDE facilities (and also use on any other application)
  15.

  17. changes.txt            Summary of changes made
  18. files.txt              This file

  20. You should place the first four files into the same directory, which should
  21. ideally be on your path. You needn't have the printmap.exe module on your
  22. hard disk, but you should keep it around in case you want to report a
  23. problem.

  25. If you set up your own key mappings, PFE will save them by default in files
  26. called pfe.key in your Windows directory. It will also set up an initialisation
  27. file called pfe.ini, also in your Windows directory.

  30. If you've been using the beta 1 release, be aware that many aspects of PFE have
  31. changed. Please read the development log 'changes.txt' for a list of what has
  32. altered; in particular, *.key files saved by the beta 1 release will not be
  33. recognised by this version.
